If you consider the sheer volume of new handbags launched every year there are only a handful of bags that attain iconic status and the Mulberry Bayswater bag falls into that category.

Launched in 2003 the Bayswater bag hit the right note by blending quintessential English style with practical functionality.

Mulberry were so successful in translating the "Cool Britannia" ethos into a handbag that Britain's very own poster girl, Kate Moss, made the Bayswater bag her own fashion statement and has been snapped by various paparazzi holding her Mulberry bag, sometimes as a shield !!!

The Mulberry fashion house was born in 1971 and was the brain child of Roger Saul whom was already involved in the fashion industry as a male model.

On his 21st birthday party, Saul decided the time was right to strike out on his own and started looking round at different business ventures. He eventually decided to go into business with his mother producing leather bags and other goods.

Saul wanted to create a fashion brand that had echoes of a traditional English country, gentry lifestyle yet also was cutting edge enough to attract fashion conscious women of the day. Coupled with exquisite leather workmanship the Mulberry bag soon became renowned for style and quality. However, Mulberry did not sacrifice practicality and functionality over style and design and Mulberry bags soon became coveted for their style and useability.

Although Mulberry enjoyed spectacular success with it's range of designer handbags, the company struck gold with the launch of the Mulberry Bayswater bag.

Calling upon all their years of experience, Mulberry created a bag that appealed to the fashionistas and celebrities yet wasn't just about good looks as Mulberry designed the bag with a practical eye.

The Bayswater is quite a spacious bag and measures approximately 36cms x 26cms x 16cms.  This sets it apart from many of the other girly looking bags on the market. The two handles on the bag are long enough to allow you to wear the bag over your shoulder, in your hand or over your forearm and this variety of ways in which you can carry the bag seems to give the Bayswater a different look and feel about it.

Like all Mulberry bags, the Bayswater is exquisitely made from the finest leather. Often described as "Darwin leather" this is a soft, vegetable tanned leather which lightens or darkens over time. This "ageing" process enhances the look of the Bayswater giving it it's own unique character.

The bag features a leather flap closure which can then be secured using either a postman's lock or the small lockable padlock at the front of the bag. All such fixtures on the bag are made from brass including the brass feet on the bottom of the bag which are useful for protecting the leather at the bottom of the Bayswater from being scratched and scuffed.

The Mulberry Bayswater retails for approximately 450 - 650 pounds depending on which version of the Bayswater it is. Although this price might seem excessive it becomes clear after owning a Mulberry bag for any length of time that it's money well spent. The craftsmanship and materials used in Mulberry bags are always to the highest standard and combined with the classic designs that have made the Bayswater so popular then you know you have something in your wardrobe that will never go out of style or fashion.
